| Border closures in northern Algeria have effectively blocked thousands of sub-Saharan migrants. Only around a hundred were able to obtain refugee status. The vast majority of migrants live outwith the law and in very precarious conditions. Their access to healthcare is particularly difficult and civil society struggles to deal with the situation. |
FACILITING ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE FOR MIGRANT
Alger wilaya, towns in the south and on the coast - Long term
| Subject to structural reforms that tend towards progressive privatisation, the Algerian public health sector is in crisis. As a result, access to healthcare is becoming increasingly difficult, and unaffordable, for the population. The follow-up of treatment for chronic conditions is deteriorating and health education, prevention and accompaniment activites are very poorly developed. |
